PU Topcoat A+B

Description

PU Two-Component Topcoat

Application:
This PU coating is used as a protective, waterproof topcoat over mineral and epoxy substrates on floors and walls.

🔧 Step 1: Preparation

  1. Clean the substrate:

    • Ensure the floor or wall is dry, dust-free and grease-free.

    • Lightly sand for good adhesion.

    • Mask edges with painter's tape where PU should not be applied.

  2. Materials required:

    • 2-component PU (coating A + hardener B)

    • Electric mixer (low speed)

    • 2-component roller (preferably 25 cm wide)

    • Optional: a brush with soft bristles (for corners/edges)

    • Paint tray

    • Tape

    • Sanding pad or fine sandpaper (for recoating)

🧪 Step 2: Mixing Coating A + Hardener B

  1. Ratio:

    • 62.5 grams A : 12.5 grams B or 80 grams : 16 grams B. 5-1
(Note: check mixing ratio on packaging)

  2. Mixing:

    • Pour B into A.

    • Mix for 2 minutes electrically at low speed.

    • Pour into a paint tray.

    • Do not mix too much at once: pot life = approx. 1 hour.

⚠️ Note:

  • Do not seal after mixing: gases are produced during the reaction.

  • Higher temperature = shorter pot life.

  • Mixed cold = poor mixing.

🖌️ Step 3: Applying the PU Topcoat

  1. Start at the window side (light source):
Work away from the light to better see gloss and imperfections.

  2. Working direction floor:

    • Roll in strips of maximum 1 metre width

    • First perpendicular to the light (parallel to window) distribute

    • Then in the direction of the light roll out evenly

    • Use a dry roller for back-rolling

  3. Working direction wall:

    • From bottom to top or from left to right

    • Final movement always complete (entire wall or floor strip)

    • Do not lift the roller halfway

⚠️ Important:

  • Work wet-on-wet, avoid pooling

  • Apply corners with brush and back-roll immediately

🕒 Step 4: Apply second (or third) coat

  • Wait at least 12 hours, but apply next coat within 48 hours.

  • Longer than 48 hours? → Lightly sand substrate with PU sanding pad or fine sandpaper.

  • Apply max. 3 coats.

🚶 Step 5: Curing & Use

  • After 24 hours: carefully walkable

  • After 48 hours: brief showering permitted

  • After 7 days: fully cured and resistant

⚠️ Avoid during the first 7 days:

  • Rugs

  • Heavy objects,

  • Moving furniture

🌬️ Ventilation and environmental conditions

  • Ventilate well, no draughts or direct sunlight

  • Underfloor heating off at least 24 hours beforehand

  • Protect the floor against dust and dirt

  • Remove tape immediately after applying the PU

🧴 Coverage & packaging

  • One set (A + B) is sufficient for 5 m²

  • Please note: rollers absorb PU – order a little extra

    • 25 cm roller uses approx. 150–200 g for proper application

  • Coating is initially milky white, dries to a transparent matt finish
