The PU topcoat is the transparent finishing layer that makes microcement waterproof and Lavasteen easier to maintain. Here you can read how to correctly apply the 2-component PU for a durable result.

🛠️ APPLYING PU TOPCOAT (2-COMPONENT: A + B)


1. PREPARATION

  • Check the substrate for:
    • Dirt, dust, grease and loose particles
    • Any primer layer present/fully dry
  • Required materials:
    • Mixing container, mixer (low speed)
    • 2K-resistant pile roller / brush
    • Safety equipment: gloves, goggles, mask
    • Cleaning agent for tools

🧪 2. MIXING COMPONENTS

  • Mixing ratio: A : B = 5 : 1 (volume ratio)
  • Pour component B completely into component A
  • Mix mechanically for 2–3 minutes until homogeneous
  • Note: Avoid air entrapment
  • Pot life (working time): approx. 60 min at 20°C

🎨 3. APPLYING THE TOPCOAT

  • Apply evenly with roller (cross-rolling if necessary)
  • Work wet-on-wet to prevent lap marks
  • Coverage: ± 100 g/m²
  • Avoid pooling or excessively thick layers

  • Protect from water & chemicals until fully cured
  • Ensure adequate ventilation during curing

⚠️ 5. IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Do not apply at temperatures < 10°C or relative humidity > 85%
  • Clean tools immediately after use
  • Dispose of residues in accordance with regulations
